Description

Is it good art or bad art? What exactly is art? What function does it serve?

These questions can only begin to be answered when one looks deeply into an artistic endeavor. It's easy enough to be told why someone's art is beautiful or awful, meaningful or meaningless, yet the real answers lie within the eye of the beholder.

The Merritt College Art Students' Association is showing artwork by Merritt College students at the Peralta Community College District Offices now through May 11th. The art show, entitled Show of Merritt is in it's 13th year.

Styles represented are painting, drawing, watercolor, figure and anatomy, ceramics, and botanical illustration.

The Peralta Colleges provide many great classes and opportunities for students to develop their artistic craft. Whether a beginner or a seasoned pro, Peralta Colleges art classes and it's dedicated art instructors are a great match for local artists.

Approximately 170 works are on display. Many art pieces are for sale by the artist, prices ranging from $30 up to $1000.

The district has provided a great venue for students to display their works to the public. Come down to 333 East 8th St in Oakland CA 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday, and see for yourself.
